East Bengal won their 33rd Kolkata Premiere League crown by thrashing Mohammedan Sporting 6-0 in the final match of the season. East Bengal started the match on the dominating note taking advantage of the weakened Mohammedan Sporting team. East Bengal took the lead via Tolgay Ozbey when a brilliant move of Penn and Lenn found the Australian who did not fail to convert. Tolgay completed his hat trick in the first half itself, thus in a way solidifying East Bengal’s hold on the championship.
The second half saw Tolgay scored his and East Bengal’s fourth goal of the match before being taken off by Trevor James Morgan. East Bengal U19 Lenn then scores the fifth goal of the match with a brilliant header of the Mehtab Hussain corner. The final nail in the coffin was struck by Penn Orji who scored the sixth goal of the match.
After the final whistle waves of East Bengal supporters gathered around the pitch to celebrate the victory of their team winning the 33rd league title.
When on one occasion the entire East Bengal fraternity was celebrating the championship, their start striker Tolgay Ozbey joined the arch rivals in a press conference to reveal his signing for them. Another shock which baffled the East Bengal supporters was Trevor Morgan’s resignation after the match. Although the club officials have later stated that everything has been settled between the club and the coach, the British-Australian before catching the flight to Singapore denied any settlement and has stated that he will consider if the club authorities agree to each and every demand of his.
