East Bengal U-18 Team Qualified for 2012 Kolkata Goalz Cup Final

Inspired by Kickz, Kolkata Goalz Cup a Premier Skill Project is organized at Park Circus Maidan. It is an initiative between the Metropolitan Police London and the Premier League. Six Kolkata Premier League Clubs - Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, East Bengal Club, Mohammedan Sporting Club, George Telegraph Sports Club, Prayag United Sports Club and Police Athletic Club participated in the 2012 First Edition of the tournament. The rules of the tournament were as per IFA Norms. The tournament is being delivered in Kolkata by the British Council and Premier League in partnership with the Kolkata Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, AIFF and IFA.

The tournament is being played in two categories, U-15 and U-18. All the six teams fielded in both the age group tournament. The initial phase of the tournament was played in league format. The first four teams in the league played in the semi-final and the final two teams to play for the Kolkata Goalz Cup.

In group stage East Bengal U-18 drew all their five matches. Against Police AC U-18, Mohammedan Sporting U-18 and George Telegraph the Junior Red and Gold Brigade played 1-1 draw. Against Prayag United U-18 and Mohun Bagan U-18 they played a goalless draw. Thus East Bengal U-18 finished the group with 5 points and qualified for the semifinal as the Fourth Team.

In the semifinal the Junior Red & Gold Brigade played against Mohammedan Sporting U-18. Both the teams were locked at 1-1 in the stipulated time and again finished 4-4 in penalty shootout. However, East Bengal U-18 was lucky enough to win the toss and thus qualified for the finals.

East Bengal U-18’s opponent in the final is George Telegraph U-18.
