Watch Out Defenders – Chidi Edeh is in East Bengal Jersey Now
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 Report by Arijit Sil
After some stellar seasons with almost all the other top clubs of India, Edeh Chidi will be pairing up with his native stopper Uga Okpara and playmaker Penn Orji in the Red and Gold jersey to redefine his name as the nightmare for defenders again. Known for his emphatic finishing moves, good heading abilities and superb stamina, Chidi Edeh, in just 24 years of age has scored an eye-catching amount of goals for many top clubs in India. Those who are following Indian national league (I-League) since 2003 are familiar with Chidi Edeh’s abilities, especially after his outstanding performances from 2004 to 2006 in Sporting Club De Goa’s jersey. His scintillating performance against East Bengal in the 3-5 match wearing Mohun Bagan jersey still haunts many East Bengal supporters.
The signing of Chidi Edeh, not by choice, is the biggest transfer input for the 2003 LG ASEAN Cup champions after failing to sign Ranty Martins. Trevor James Morgan’s decision to force East Bengal officials to sign Chidi Edeh in price of withdrawing his resignation as East Bengal coach may sound as a gambling with better choices in a situation where other top clubs are relying on high-profile signings, of which topping the list is Prayag United signing Ranty Martins and Mohun Bagan going all out and standing in advantage in signing Tolgay Ozbey, the former merchant of Red and Gold dreams.
Meanwhile, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are yet to settle the Tolgay Ozbey issue and according to sources, Vijay Mallya may step into settling the issue outside court. Tolgay Ozbey, who is enjoying holidays in Madrid now days, is likely to be replaced by someone of the shortlisted strikers of Asian Quota after the final hearing in court.
The practice and pre-season training camp of East Bengal senior team is likely to start in second week of July.
