East Bengal felicitated Legendary Sudhir Karmakar

Sudhir Karmakar, the legendary defender of India and East Bengal Club, who was named the Best Defender of Asia after the 1970 Bangkok Asian Games where India won Bronze Medal, was felicitated by East Bengal Club on 11th November 2006.
East Bengal Club organized one Sudhir Karmakar Benefit Match on the Club ground on 11th November 2006. During the half time of the tie, former players Chinmoy Chatterjee, Samaresh Chowdhury, Surajit Sengupta, Shivaji Banerjee & Goutam Sarkar garlanded Sudhir Karmakar with a mammoth Red & Gold garland. Club secretary Mr. Kalyan Mazumdar presented a momento to Sudhir Karmakar on behalf of the Club. Ex-India Internationals Sailen Manna, Peter Thangaraj, Aroon Ghosh, Santo Mitra, Syed Nayeemuddin, Prasun Banerjee, Subrata Bhattacharya & Nigerian Chima Okorie were also present at the ground.
Sudhir Karmakar represented East Bengal Club from 1969-1976 and 1980-81. He was the captain of the club in 1972, the year the club won all the major tournaments in India. In 1972 Sudhir Karmakar was awarded with Arjuna Award.
