East Bengal Felicitated Santo Mitra
East Bengal’s Sahara Kolkata League Match against Techno Aryan was celebrated as the benefit match of former East Bengal Skipper Santo Mitra. The Match was held at East Bengal Ground on 14th December 2010.
The former Left Back of East Bengal was the captain of the team in 1970, the year the club beat famous Paz Club of Iran in IFA Shield final by a solitary goal of of Parimal Dey. He Played for the club from 1965 - 1973 and represented India in the Merdeka Tournament in 1968. He was the Editor of bengali Soccer Magazine "Kick-Off" published by the India Football Association from Kolkata. In 1985 he was the Manager of India Sr. Football team in Nehru Gold Cup Tournament when the team coach was Ciric Milovamn. He was the Manager of India U - 23 Football Team for Pre Olympic Qualifying Match in the year 2007 and senior team in 2002.
Santo Mitra was felicitated by East Bengal Club, Techno Aryan Club, West Bengal Government, Sports & Beyond and Wari. He was also presented with Rs. 10,10,000 at Half Time. Other than this he was presented with different Special Gifts like Hilsa, a Mamoth Red & Gold Garland, Sweets, Memento, Suits and Bouquet.
Many Former Legendary footballers presence made the occasion very special. Players like P.K. Banerjee, Sailen Manna, Sudhir Karmakar, Bhaskor Ganguly, Babu Mani, Manoranjan Bhattacharyya, Syed Nayeemuddin were all present in the occasion. West Bengal Sports Minister Shri Kanti Ganguly and IFA Secretary Mr. Utpal Kumar Ganguly was also there in the occasion.
