East Bengal felicitated Manilal Ghatak, Tulsidas Balaram & S (Paltu) Roy
On 1st August, 2010 East Bengal Club’s 91st Foundation Day, the club felicitated their three most legendary players. They are Manilal Ghatak, Tulsidas Balaram & S (Paltu) Roy. All these legendary player has made East Bengal club proud for numerous occasions.
Manilal Ghatak was one of the greatest goalkeepers of East Bengal Club. He joined the club in the year of 1949 and stayed till 1955. It was a Golden era for the Club during which the club won the League (1949, 1950, 1952), I.F.A. Shield (1949, 1950, 1951), Rovers Cup (1949), D.C.M. Trophy (1950 and 1952) and Durand Cup (1951 and 1952). For this remarkable show Manilal Ghatak had a great contribution as a goalkeeper. He was an important member of the Club team which toured Romania and Soviet Union in 1953.
S.Roy (Paltu) was a famous Left Midfielder of East Bengal club. He represented the club from 1950 to 1952. On that time the famous “Pancha Pandav” were in full form and S.Roy was the supplier of the ball. He also represented Indian National Team 1952 Olympic Games.
Tulsidas Balaram was a renowned left inside of East Bengal club. In his time he was one of the most skilful players of the country. He served the club from 1957-62 and even skippered in 1961 when he famously scored 23 goals. By Scoring 23 goals, he was adjudged the best player in the 1961 Calcutta Football League. He scored 102 goals for the Club being the highest scorer in 1959 and 1961. He was also the member of both 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games. The most glorious part of his career is that he was a member of Gold Medal winning Indian Football team in 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. For such a good football career he was awarder with Arjuna Awards later.
All these legendary players were felicitated with Memento and cash award of Rs. 51,000/- each.
