Union Minister Pranab Mukherjee became Life Member of East Bengal Club

East Bengal club had a rich history and the football traditional is very strong, with enormous Fan base around the world. Along with this the club had renowned and notable personalities as Life Members. Eminent persons such as Dr.Amartya Sen, Lata Mangeshkar, Dr. Vijay Mallya, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Mithun Chakraborty are among them.
 
On 1st August, 2010, Club’s Foundation Day, Union Minister of Finance Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the second most powerful man of India after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, became the Life Member of East Bengal Club.

On this occasion, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that East Bengal club has a rich heritage and their contribution to Indian football is immense, so he is feeling honoured to become the Life Member of East Bengal Club and that also on Club’s Foundation Day.

Regarding Union Minister of Finance Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s presence at the Program, Football Legend and Ex East Bengal Coach Mr. P.K. Banerjee said that East Bengal showed that they are the most powerful and dominant club of India. Arch rivals Mohun Bagan failed to bring any renowned face in their program, where as East Bengal brought the Second Most Powerful Man of India on their Foundation Day.
