1986 in IFA Shield victory against Leventis United

In the year 1986 East Bengal club was clubbed with two foreign teams in the group stage of the IFA Shield. One of the team was Leventis United of Nigeria. This team was one of the strongest team at that time in Africa. They were the current Nigerian Premier League Champion, Nigerian FA Cup Champion. They were Runners up of 1985 African Cup Winners Cup. On 17th December, 1986, East Bengal played against the Strong Leventis United. East Bengal won the match by 3-1. For East Bengal Biswajit Bhattachrya, Sudip Chatterjee and Ranjit Karmakar scored one goal each. It was one of the memorable victories for East Bengal against Foreign Clubs.
