EBRP Celebrated Raksha Bandhan at East Bengal Club
Tuesday, August 24, 2010 Report by Rajarshi Ghosh
EAST BENGAL the Real POWER today celebrated Raksha Bandhan at the East Bengal club after the practice match in the evening. All the players, coaching staff, officials and grounds staffs were tied Rakhi by the members of Real POWER.

Now before the celebration took place we tried to make everyone understood why we are celebrating Raksha Bandhan at the Club Tent. History says that in 1905, Curzon, the Viceroy and Governor-General (1899–1905),applied the policy of DIVIDE AND RULE and ordered the partition of the province of Bengal for improvements in administrative efficiency in that huge and populous region, where the Bengali Hindu intelligentsia exerted considerable influence on local and national politics. The partition outraged Bengalis. Not only had the government failed to consult Indian public opinion, but the action appeared to reflect the British resolve to divide and rule. Widespread agitation ensued in the streets and in the press, and the Congress advocated boycotting British products under the banner of swadeshi. People showed unity by tying Rakhi on each other's wrists.
East Bengal Club has player from different parts of the country. To make them united and to wish every success for the current season Real POWER team organized Raksha Bandhan at the Club Tent.

Our one of the youngest female member Saswati Sil, tied Rakhi to everyone’s hand and wished them good luck for the season.
Mehtab on this occasion said that he felt honoured by the celebration of Raksha Bandhan by EAST BENGAL the Real POWER Members and informed that from today onwards he will be always beside Saswati Sil and will do whatever helps if she needs in future.

Coach Morgan first tried to understood what Raksha Bandhan is all about. After knowing about Raksha Bandhan, he informed that he is delighted to see such initiatives taken by EAST BENGAL the Real POWER Members.

Print and Electronic Media were all present in the Raksha Bandha Celebration at the Club Tent. Ananda Bazar Patrika, The Telegraph, Bartaman, Ajkal, Sokal Bela, Pratahik Sambad are some of the Print Media who were present. Among the Electronic Media Channel 10, Kolkata TV, News Time, Akash Bangla, ETV were all present.
